As the holiday season approaches, many Filipino companies plan festive gatherings. However, some companies still impose mandatory performances, leaving employees wondering if they can decline.
Philippine labor laws are clear: employees cannot be forced into non-work activities, including dance routines at holiday parties.
Additionally, if practices happen after regular work hours, they must be compensated with overtime pay. Employers also cannot deduct pay if you choose not to attend.
Protecting Your Boundaries
You have the right to set personal boundaries. If you feel uncomfortable, you can politely decline or discuss it with HR. These events should bring joy, not stress, and it’s important that employees feel respected and valued.
